भागवतानन्द गुरु जी का प्रश्न - जैसे पूर्वकाल में ऋषि महर्षि मंत्र आदि से साधना करके देवताओं का प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन प्राप्त करते थे और उनसे अभीष्ट सिद्धियों को प्राप्त करते थे, आज के युग में इसकी क्या संभावनाएँ हैं ? :-
शंकराचार्य जी का उत्तर - क्यों नहीं है? कलियुग में मीराबाई हुई या नहीं? सूरदास हुए ये नहीं? तुलसीदास हुए या नहीं? रामानुजाचार्य हुए या नहीं? और मधुसूदन सरस्वती हुए या नहीं? इन सबको भगवान् का दर्शन होता था या नहीं? भगवान् शंकराचार्य कलियुग में ही हुए हैं। वल्लभाचार्य, निंबार्काचार्य, मध्वाचार्य, रामानन्दाचार्य इन सबको भगवान् का दर्शन सुलभ था। कलियुग में तो दर्शन सुगमतापूर्वक हो सकता है। भगवान् का दर्शन होता है। दम्भ की बात अलग है, लेकिन ये सब कोई दम्भी नहीं जिनका मैंने नाम लिया। ये सब कलियुग में ही हुये हैं। तुलसीदास जी और मधुसूदन सरस्वती जी तो समकालीन थे। दोनों काशी में थे। भगवान् का दर्शन हो ही सकता है, होता ही है। मीराबाई तो बहुत पुरानी नहीं हैं उनको भी हुआ है, सूरदास जी को, तुलसीदास जी को सबको तो भगवान् का दर्शन हुआ है।
प्रश्न - तो इसमें भक्तियोग को ही प्रधान माना जाये या देवताओं के प्रत्यक्ष दर्शन के लिए मन्त्रात्मक प्रयोग भी कारगर होते हैं?
शंकराचार्य जी का उत्तर - मीराबाई तो मन्त्र नहीं जपती थी। भक्ति के बल पर उन्हें भगवान् का दर्शन हुआ। और मन्त्रों में जो अधिकृत हैं उनको भी हुआ। भक्ति की प्रधानता है। भक्ति की प्रधानता से भजनीय भगवान् प्रकट हो जाते हैं, दर्शन देते हैं इस कलिकाल में भी, अभीष्ट सिद्धि भी होती है। अन्य युगों में तो कोई 1000 वर्ष तक धर्म का पालन करें तो फल मिलता था, कलियुग में तो 1 साल में ही मिल जाता है। क्योंकि धर्म पालन करने वालों को इतनी यातना दी जाती है कलियुग में कि अन्य युगों में जो काम 1000 वर्ष में सधता था वह कलियुग में 1 वर्ष में ही सध जाता है। अभी तो भगवान् का कायदे से भजन करने वालों का भी अकाल पड़ा है या नहीं? अभी धर्म के लिए जो हाथ पाँव चलाएगा वह भगवान् के विशेष अनुग्रह का पात्र होगा क्योंकि सब धर्म की धज्जि उड़ा रहे हैं। कलियुग में तो धर्म भी जल्दी फल दे देता है, भगवान् भी जल्दी प्रसन्न हो जाते हैं। क्योंकि अकाल पड़ा है भगवान् के भक्तों का, धर्मात्माओं का। इस परिस्थिति में दम्भ से दूर रहकर जो धर्म के मार्ग पर चलते हैं, भगवान् का भजन करते हैं उनको जल्दी ही सफलता मिल जाती है।

Question by Bhagavatanad Guru : Like in the ancient times, Rishis', Maharshis’ could meditate on the Mantras and get direct darshana of the Devatas and obtain the desired ‘siddhis’ from them, how possible is this in today’s age?
Shankaracharya ji responds - Why not! Hasn’t there been Meerabai in Kaliyuga, hasn’t there been Surdas, hasn’t there been Tulsidas, hasn’t there been Ramanujacharya and hasn’t there been Madhusudan Saraswati. They were getting Darshana of Bhagwan or not ? Bhagwan Shankaracharya has been there in Kaliyuga only. Vallabhacharya, Nimbakacharya, Madhavacharya, Ramanandacharya, all of them had Bhagwan’s darshana easily accessible to them. Darshana has become easier in kaliyuga. There is Bhagwan’s darshana. Arrogance is a different thing. None of them whom I named were arrogant, all of them have been in Kaliyuga only. And Madhusudan Saraswati ji and Tulsidas ji, Madhusudan Das ji was a contemporary, both of them were in Kashi. Bhagwan’s Darshana can indeed happen, does happen, Meerabai is not that old. Surdas ji, Tulsidas ji, all of them had Bhagwan’s Darshana.
Question by Bhagavatanad Guru - So should ‘Bhakti yoga’ be considered most important in this, or is the uses of Mantra etc. also useful in getting direct darshana of the Devatas?
Shankaracharya ji responds : Meerabai didn’t know ‘mantras’, she got Bhagwan’s darshana due to the power of ‘bhakti’ and those who are adept at ‘mantras’ also got it. ‘Bhakti’ has primacy this is correct. By the primacy of ‘bhakti’, worship-worthy Bhagwan manifests himself, gives darshana, the desired ‘siddhis’ also happen in the Kali age (yuga). In the Kali age, in other ‘yugas’ after following ‘dharma’ for a thousand years the fruit (Pfal) that one got, in ‘Kaliyuga’ it’s gotten in one year only. Those following ‘dharma’ are given so much torture in ‘Kaliyuga’, that work which used to take one thousand years to accomplish in other ‘yugas’, in ‘Kaliyuga’ it is accomplished in a single year only. Right now, there is a dearth of those who will do Bhagwan’s bhajan even after being told, is there not? Now whoever works his hands and feet for Dharma will be a special receiver of Bhagwan’s ‘anugraha’. Because right now everybody is ripping Dharma apart. In ‘Kaliyuga’ even Dharma gives its fruit soon. Bhagwan’s darshana happen quickly. There is a drought of Bhagwan’s devotees, of those embodying Dharma. In this condition, those who stay away from ‘Adharma’ and walk the path of ‘dharma’, who do Bhagwan’s bhajan, they get success quickly.
